We're at Risk of Losing Our Founders

A few weeks ago, we released a study at Leaders Fund showing that Canada’s startup engine is losing momentum:
- Fewer companies are being founded here
- More of our most ambitious founders are heading abroad to build
The response to that work has been overwhelming — from founders, investors, and policymakers who all care deeply about fixing this problem.
David Stein and I went to Ottawa to bring that conversation to Parliament. We testified before the Standing Committee on Industry and Technology, which is studying Canada’s capital flight and productivity challenges.
Our message is simple: if we don't act now, we risk losing not just a generation of founders, but the capital, IP, and prosperity they would have created here.
As a first step, we should eliminate cap gains for startups. We shouldn't just match QSBS. We should do better.
